is there a way to get a turbo to work right without completely redoing
everything...like just bolting it on, or does all of the work have to be
done?

from what i can tell you have the DOHC which put out around 220hp stock,
the twin turbo models use the same engine(276-321hp) but i'm not entirely
sure what is dialed out on it, your probable best to go to one of your
local performance shops and see if one of them know or can check the turbo
requirements.

Yes there are turbochargerkits that just bolt on to your engine. But they
only give you 4-7 psi of boost.which is a safe boost range for an high
compression engine. If you go any higher you will start breaking internals.
If you take a look at the turbo version of your motor, you'll notice that
they have beefier internals plus lower compression pistons to withstand the
boost that the stock turbocharger gives out.
