Hi,
I had the following issue with my 2000 323i automatic BMW. When I went to
back out of my driveway-I put the car in reverse. When I stepped on the
gas, the car wouldn't go. The engine revved but the tires would not move.
The car went in drive just fine. I was able to push the car back to where
I was able to use drive to get out of my driveway. I drove for about 5
miles to a red light and tested it, and the car went into reverse and
backed up fine. Car ran fine in drive during the entire errand and from
that point on, would go in reverse. This is the first time anything like
this has happeded. Any thoughts on what this issue is?

The simplest and most likely thing IMHO is simply that the shifter didn't
click into the R spot completely. I don't know the order of gears for
Bimmers, but I'm guessing P or N are right next to R, and you were in one
of those. Happens occasionally in my cars, just jiggle the shifter a bit
and it slides in.
If this is the case there is really no need to fix anything unless it
happens a lot, in which case either something is broken or you need to pay
more attention when changing gears. :2cents:
