I've heard of people using 0w oil in warm places like here and was wondering what benefits (if any) are there in doing so? posted by  99integra

I don't know why you'd want to run 0wXX...that's more for colder temps, where the oil is less viscious to make it easier on the engine on startup, or in the case of a diesel, year round. You'd probably want to use 5wXX at the lowest. As for benefits? I doubt you'll see any. Some 0wXX oils claim to give you better mileage, but the difference is so minimal and sometimes the price is so different from 5wXX that you'd probably not come out ahead. posted by  dodgerforlife
