Hello. Well, first I'd like to apologize now for all the protocol errors
and dumb questions I am about to execute. I am not all that internet
savvy, nor do I have any real idea what I may be getting into here.
Let's see, I haven't really turned a wrench in over 20 years, and even then
it was on Huey's not Chevy's. As a kid I did work at the local station for
gas money and the guys taught me a few things and while at Ft Bragg did do
the basics on my '77 Trans Am, but nothing as complex or long term as I
hope I am about to.
My son is going on 13, he wants to build a car with me, great idea I say,
make it old enough that I know the difference between a carb and a caliper
please. We have several years, and we'll need it, but it does sound fun
and a great way for us to spend time together and a project that we will
both learn from, but most importantly he'll learn about mechanics, and the
time, effort and expense of owning a car. So that's where we are. We're
strating from 0, most of my tools are long gone, and no idea even where to
start looking.
I am hoping you all can help assist us in some advice, where do we look,
what models, how does one go about obtaining the older Chilton Manuals,
parts tools, etc.... Of course he wants a late 60's early 70s Camero SS or
similar...(Mustang maybe etc...thanks Transformers...), but I'm worried
that anything worth rebuilding will be $$$$. We're not trying to restore
for value or collection, just find a project that we can obtain parts,
manuals, tools etc, easily enough each step of the way.
That's it, wow, that was a lot too, not sure that's a good omen.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
